Why Millions of Kurds' Boycott of referendum is seen as a Huge Success in Turkey?

Kurds are second-cl citizens in Turkey, just like the dhimmi were during the Ottoman empire. Rather than bow to the oppressors and legitimise the Turkish occupation of Kurdish land, the Kurds bravely refused.
