Do you think italians are ethnic group?

we all know that italian language is actually tuscan language,the language spoken in Florence and there are many languages spoken in Italy like Lombard,Sicilian,Venetian,Sardinian and many others i even wonder why Italy was united in 1871 i don't think Italy should have been united Italy
