Is a steam mop okay for my "fake" wood floors?

I was just wondering if I use a Steam mop (like the Shark Steam mop just for suggestion) would it damage my floor? i want something that makes the wood sparkle again. i've tried vinegar and water but it just makes the house stink and the floor rises because of the water. Because steam basically is just vaporized water would it make my floors rise as well? BUT if the steam mop is just too good to be true as i have been told is there any other way to have my floors look cleaner?? i have kids and pets so the house is always dirty, so any opinion is welcome :)
