Laying a tile floor.?

I have demo'd my powder room down to the concrete floor (in the addition part of the house) and I want to lay tile instead of linoleum, etc. My question is, what is the best way to lay tile on the concrete floor? Should I put concrete backer board down? If so, how should I secure that? I cant just lay the tile on the slab, correct? Thanks for the help.
